Our firm was formed in 1970 and initially focused on representing federal grants recipients including State and local government agencies, universities and non-profit organizations.
At the time, no other firm even recognized that such an area of law existed. It was our hope to be able to expand our services into other, more traditional areas as our grants clients needs warranted. Soon afterward we recognized the changes to legal practice called for by the 1970s no-fault divorce laws and began to represent domestic relations clients just after those laws were passed.
Today, we are the largest firm serving federal grantees and we also have the largest domestic relations practice in the Washington metropolitan area. In addition we also have developed a substantial health law practice out of our grants law work. That practice today not only serves federal grantees, but numerous other health care providers, including hospitals, community health centers, private physicians, and health maintenance organizations, on a nationwide basis.
In the early 1980s, we also began a practice in military law. That practice now extends to each of the uniformed services and is internationally recognized. As we originally hoped, over the years, our work in particular areas has led to numerous other clients with a broad range of other needs. Today, in addition to grants law, domestic relations, health and federal employment matters, we provide traditional legal services in areas such as corporate law, business matters, trust and estates, tax, government contracts and general administrative law.
We have, in short, become a full service firm.
