“I believe it is important to help clients preserve assets and relationships post-divorce. I work with clients to find solutions for moving forward, rather than spend unnecessary resources prolonging conflict.”
Heading up the Virginia family law and divorce practice for FTLF, Richard Gray is a seasoned family lawyer with exceptional legal and financial expertise. He recognizes that divorce cannot remedy the past. Instead, he directs his clients’ attention to the future, helping families start anew and rebuild lives with as much dignity and emotional stability as possible. Richard believes strongly in preserving assets and relationships for the post-divorce years. He works with clients to find solutions for moving forward and maintaining civility with each other, especially for the sake of children, rather than spending unnecessary resources prolonging conflict.
An experienced litigator, Richard also looks for ways of reaching agreement outside the courtroom. Richard understands that clients may be certain about wanting a divorce, but have concerns and questions about the process. He educates clients on the full continuum of divorce options including collaborative law, mediation and litigation, thereby enabling his clients to be in control of their decisions.
Clients appreciate Richard’s one-on-one involvement with their cases and the direct access he provides. His attention to detail serves clients well in handling small but important points. Richard listens carefully to clients’ goals and strives to achieve them; at the same time, he advises his clients if their goals are unreasonable or will cause great harm to the parties’ relationship.
Divorce brings out a full range of human emotions and responses. Drawing on his undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology, Richard is sensitive to how these feelings can affect important decisions that a client is trying to make. Richard is proud to be able to say that he maintains his practice with integrity and honesty throughout this adversarial and sometimes emotional process.
Richard has been recognized by his peers for his expertise and authority in the field of family law in the Virginia and D.C. Metro area. Among his honors, Richard is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) and the Virginia Chapter of the AAML. Metropolitan area.Richard has been listed as a Super Lawyer from 2006-2015 in the Virginia and D.C. Metro Super Lawyers magazine.
