This month’s FTLF Family Law Spotlight Series highlights FTLF Family Law Partner, Divani Nadaraja.
Divani is an experienced litigator and accomplished family law attorney. She understands that every family dynamic is unique and utilizes a tailored approach to help clients achieve their pursuits. Divani represents clients in all aspects of family law including child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and protective order matters.
Q: Why did you become a family law attorney?
A: I have always wanted to be an advocate for children and families, so this practice area is a natural fit for me. Family law involves helping people through some of the most challenging and vulnerable periods of their lives. Guiding my clients through those moments has been rewarding.
Q: What are two things you enjoy about your practice and why?
A: Families are dynamic and unique so this practice allows me plenty of opportunities to be creative. Also, I love that I can see the real impact we have on our clients’ lives.
Q: When you’re not practicing law, what are some things you enjoy doing?
A: I love to travel. Although traveling with young children has its challenges, I get great pleasure out of seeing the world through their eyes. I also have a passion for the performing arts. I co-founded The South Asian Performing Arts Network and Institute, a non-profit that is devoted to the promotion of South Asian music, dance, and theater. The artists with The SAPAN Institute have performed at the National Cherry Blossom Festival and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: I would tell my younger self that it is fine to be a beginner. Embrace new moments, and don’t feel discouraged if you fumble while learning something new. You won’t stay a beginner forever, and this time will teach you skills for new opportunities.
Q: If you were not a family law attorney, what profession would you have chosen?
A: In some alternate universe I think I would have enjoyed being an actress.
