A deep commitment to successful settlements and outcomes.

Whether representing domestic violence victims or the unjustly accused, FTLF attorneys focus on achieving outcomes that ensure safety for all concerned. Their extensive experience with the rules and procedures of Family Court systems also enables clients to present well in court to seek the desired relief.

Representing the unjustly accused.

For clients who feel they’ve been unfairly accused of abusive conduct, toward a spouse or other intimate partner, we work closely to develop facts and witnesses to provide an accurate picture of what actually occurred — helping the court to enter an appropriate order.

Deeply familiar with both sides of domestic violence issues, FTLF attorneys are often able to negotiate a safe settlement for both parties, while addressing other relevant case issues. When settlement is not possible, we have a track record of successful outcomes for clients who maintain that no abuse occurred.

Representing victims of domestic violence.

FTLF attorneys devote many volunteer hours to improve society’s understanding and response to domestic violence and coercive control. This deepens our ability to help clients understand the patterns and dynamics of abuse, to realize they are not alone, and to identify what they need to do to stay safe.

Accessing the legal protections provided by the court system is a critical early step in stopping abuse. Once physical and emotional protections have been established, our attorneys move on to address longer-term issues involving custody and care of children, support, and equitable division of marital assets.

Our attorneys have both the commitment and the skill to appropriately handle cases with issues of domestic violence, both on behalf of the victim of domestic violence and on behalf of the individual who feels unjustly accused.

Representing the “Unjustly Accused”

If you believe you have been unfairly accused of abusive conduct toward a spouse or other intimate partner, we will work closely with you to develop the facts and witnesses that will enable the court to have an accurate picture of what actually occurred, which will lead to the entry of the appropriate order.

However, if settlement is not possible, we have a track record of successful outcomes representing individuals who maintain that no abuse occurred.

Representing Victims of Domestic Violence

Surprisingly, many women (and men) who are in abusive relationships can’t name it or are in denial about the extent of the problem. When this is the case, the abused person needs help to understand the pattern and dynamics of the situation and to identify the key tasks that need to be undertaken to maintain safety. It is also important for abused individuals to know that they are not alone.

Our attorneys have demonstrated a commitment to new beginnings for victims of domestic violence both by providing them expert legal representation and by devoting many hours of volunteer time to improving our society’s understanding of and response to the needs of victims of domestic violence and coercive control.
